Sany Heavy Industry: Twenty Years of Overseas Expansion! From 0 to 20 billion!
In August 2002, two Sany PQ190 motor graders were sent to Morocco respectively, and Sany thus embarked on a magnificent overseas journey. At that time, the Moroccan official newspaper LE MATIN reported this news on the front page, documenting this historic moment.
From zero to one billion
In 2003, Sany's export business expanded to many countries in Eastern Europe, Africa, Southeast Asia, South Asia and the Middle East. In 2004, it further expanded into markets such as Russia, South Korea, Central Asia and South America.
That year, 21 sets of Sany pumping equipment representing China's highest level were successfully delivered to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to participate in the construction of the world's tallest building - the Burj Khalifa. The title of "World Pump King" became famous overnight.
In 2005, Sany Heavy Industry disclosed its overseas performance for the first time in its annual report. At that time, Sany Heavy Industry's overseas sales reached 180 million yuan, breaking the 100 million yuan mark for the first time.
Selling products abroad is only the initial stage of Sany's internationalization. In 2006, Sany invested 60 million US dollars to build a research and development and manufacturing base in Pune, India, marking the largest direct investment by a Chinese company in India at that time. Sany has taken its first step in overseas investment.
"Sany not only aims to sell its products all over the world, but also plans to build factories in developed countries of the construction machinery manufacturing industry!" " Liang Wengen's ambition came true in 2007. That autumn, Sany acquired 1,600 mu of land in Georgia, USA, and invested 60 million US dollars to establish a research and development and manufacturing center in the United States, becoming the first Chinese mechanical manufacturing enterprise to invest and build a factory in the United States.
In the same summer, 40 units of Sany excavators were exported to Europe at one time. This was the first batch export of Sany excavators and also domestic excavators.
In 2008, with the expansion of its global market presence, Sany made the construction of its overseas service system the top priority of its overseas work. It sent over 200 service engineers to the world, simultaneously built 40 warehouses, planned a global parts logistics system, etc., and established the "24-hour delivery" standard for parts to Sany customers worldwide.
In January 2009, under the witness of the prime ministers of China and Germany, Sany invested 100 million euros to build a factory in Cologne, Germany, advancing into the birthplace and heart of construction machinery. The news caused a sensation throughout the entire industry.
This year, Sany's overseas sales exceeded 1 billion yuan for the first time. Its products were exported in bulk to over 110 countries and regions, and sales in the Middle East, North Africa, Europe, Southeast Asia and other markets were particularly booming.
From 1 billion to 10 billion
In 2010, a mine disaster rescue operation made Sany's high quality well-known far and wide. The Sany SCC4000 crawler crane, as the only Asian equipment on site, participated in the world-renowned international rescue operation for the Chilean mining disaster. This incident not only enhanced the reputation of the Sany brand, but also made the brand of "Made in China" well-known.
On the west coast of the Pacific Ocean, in 2011, the nuclear leakage crisis in Fukushima, Japan, also touched the sensitive nerves of the whole world. At that time, Sany donated a 62-meter pump truck worth one million US dollars free of charge, which played a significant role in the rescue operation in Fukushima and won wide recognition worldwide.
The highlights of the two international rescue incidents have boosted Sany's overseas image and business. In 2011, Sany Group's overseas sales exceeded 5 billion yuan.
2012 was a crucial year for Sany's internationalization. At the beginning of the year, Sany Heavy Industry made a lightning acquisition of German company Putzmeister for 324 million euros. Together, they captured nearly half of the global market share, creating a new world concrete machinery giant and completely changing the landscape of the global construction machinery industry.
In September of the same year, due to then US President Obama's illegal suspension of the Sany wind power project, Sany 11 filed a lawsuit against Obama and the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States. After two years of trial, the court's second-instance ruling ruled that the presidential order issued by Obama violated procedural justice, and March 1st achieved a historic victory.
It was in this year that Sany's overseas sales exceeded the 10 billion yuan mark for the first time.
From 10 billion to...
Following the country's lead, Sany Group promptly established a "Belt and Road" project department, led by Liang Wengen, and entered the "fast lane" of international development.
Since then, the four overseas R&D and manufacturing bases of Sany have been established, and the global layout along the "Silk Road on Land" and the "Silk Road at Sea" has been basically completed.
In 2015, Sany further subdivided its six overseas regions into ten, adding the regions of Asia and Australia, Indonesia, Southeast Asia and West Africa, to achieve focused operation in key areas.
In the same year, Sany proposed the "Five Little Dragons Going Global" strategy, aiming to transform smart terminals, wind power development, industrialized construction, smart mines, and oil and gas chemical industry into new business fulcrum along the "Belt and Road Initiative", thereby stimulating boundless vitality in overseas markets.
From 2016 to 2019, Sany's overseas performance continuously reached new highs. During the three years, the compound annual growth rate overseas reached 20%, and the annual profit growth was over 30%. It ranked first in export share in 30 major countries. The export scale and growth rate have both remained at the top of the industry.
In 2020, when the global pandemic broke out, Sany urgently coordinated various resources and provided over 3 million masks and medical supplies to more than 30 countries including Germany, Italy, France, Japan and Thailand, which became a touching moment in Sany's internationalization journey.
In the same year, Sany sold 98,705 excavators worldwide, accounting for 15% of the global market share. It claimed the global sales championship for the first time and won the second "world gold medal" for Sany Group.
Growth is still accelerating!
In the just-passed 2021, Sany launched 128 internationalized products and achieved its best overseas business performance in history: overseas sales exceeded 20 billion yuan, increasing by 65% year-on-year, and doubled in over 50 countries and regions. In the same year, Sany Heavy Industry made its debut on the Forbes Global 500 list.
Over the past 20 years of international development, from skyscrapers to railways, from docks to mines, from Asia to Europe, from Africa to America, Sany has worked hard together with the builders and witnessed the birth of one record after another and one miracle after another.
"Without internationalization, Sany would at best be just a larger individual business." " Liang Wengen once expressed such feelings. It is precisely based on such an understanding that Sany is now further planning its grand blueprint for overseas expansion, dedicated to creating a world-class brand for the Chinese nation.
Not long ago, Sany's "lighthouse Factory" in Indonesia was completed and put into operation. This is the first overseas "lighthouse factory" in the domestic industry and also the first overseas export of Sany's intelligent manufacturing standards.
