Denapek asphalt mixture double-layer paver
In 1995, Dynapac Company, in collaboration with Hyman Kirchner Construction Company, proposed an innovation in asphalt pavement construction: a composite asphalt mixture surface layer to address the problems of asphalt pavement cracks, deformations, and particle spalling.
This solution lies in improving the workability of the asphalt mixture to achieve a compaction degree of at least 100% related to the Marshall density in practice. Here, the two layers of asphalt mixture with different compositions on top will be laid layer by layer in one go using a double-layer paver. Unlike the traditional 4cm surface layer paving, its surface layer is reduced to only 2cm thick.
As a result, Dynapac has developed a new type of pavement spreading equipment for laying composite asphalt mixtures - namely, the double-layer paver. The basic principle is composed of two sets of pavers installed front to back. This equipment operates in conjunction with a highly efficient combined feeder, which can alternately transport different asphalt mixtures from the transport vehicle to two mixing hoppers. The paving process is continuous and uniform, and then the roller completes the final compaction of two layers at one time.
This new paver is a complex because it incorporates the overall structure and technical components of the upper layer paver as well as its own energy supply system. In addition, a screw conveyor is added. This screw conveyor replaces the function of the scraper conveyor on the ordinary paver and transports the mixture from the elevated upper layer hopper to the paver plate. This component is trailer-type and can be retracted when the paver is in motion.
Due to the simultaneous paving of asphalt mixtures of different compositions, a thick layer of asphalt mixture is formed, which will cool down very slowly and can utilize the residual heat of the next layer.
By reducing the upper layer, which is susceptible to deformation, from 4cm to 2cm and the higher pressure compaction obtained from the upper and middle layers, the deformation stability of the pavement paved with this asphalt mixture is improved
