At Bauma 2025, a variety of new products made a grand debut in the Wirtgen exhibition area
The ideal cold milling machine suitable for all kinds of construction, the world's first release
At this exhibition, Wirtgen showcased 12 cold milling machines, astonishing everyone with its comprehensive and extensive product range. Two of them are global premieres and also a huge highlight of ours: the all-electric small milling machine W 50 Re (concept model) and the large milling machine W 250 XF. In addition, Wirtgen also showcased a powerful cold milling machine with an optional cab.
During the development of the W 250 XF, we mainly focused on whether the machine could achieve greater output and lower emissions. The twin-engine powertrain is equipped with two 18-liter John Deere engines, capable of delivering a maximum rated power of 900 kW. Wirtgen and John Deere have joined forces to more meticulously adjust the torque characteristics of the engine to meet the specific requirements of the cold milling process.
The Mill Assist intelligent milling control system adjusts the power output of the two engines as needed to ensure the efficient use of the machine. In automatic mode, the system always ensures the most favorable balance between performance and cost. Not only that, it also offers three different construction strategies to optimize processes in terms of cost, capacity or quality. The machine on display is also equipped with a comfortable cab, which not only provides the operator with a relaxed, comfortable and low-fatigue working environment, but also offers effective protection against weather and noise emissions.
Wirtgen W 250 XF, with a milling width of up to 3.8m, can achieve higher milling performance and lower emissions
The global debut of the new generation of wheeled cold recycling machines and soil stabilizers
For the cold regeneration and soil stabilization fields, Wirtgen showcased a series of models, including three brand-new machines: WR 200/240/250X. The focus of the development of these three machines was on ensuring simple operation, ergonomic compliance, high productivity and efficiency, as well as ideal mixing quality.
To achieve these goals, it is necessary to comprehensively improve the design of the control system and the cab itself. The new multi-functional joystick, fingertip control and height adjustment using the multi-functional armrest all contribute to enhancing the comfort and humanization of the control system. In addition to digital process monitoring, the large-sized machine control panel display also offers a variety of automation functions, application-related displays and WIRTGEN GROUP CoPilot.
CoPilot provides suggestive operation plans, interactive tutorials and self-learning functions during the construction process, allowing users to familiarize themselves with the machine and its various functions through the animations directly displayed on the machine control panel. The time-tested Duraforce milling and mixing rotors ensure consistently high milling and mixing performance.
Also on display with the new WR series machines is the WRC 240 (i) gravel regeneration machine. This machine can crush the manually compacted block stone pavement and concrete fragments on the spot, and mix the resulting materials evenly at one time. The working width of the gravel crusher is 2,320mm and the maximum working depth is 510 mm, capable of achieving a high output of 600 tons per hour for cutting, crushing and mixing.
The new generation of WR series models from Wirtgen offers a more user-friendly control system and better mixing quality
The SP 33 slipform paver can be used for both horizontal and lateral laying
At this year's bauma exhibition, Wirtgen showcased a brand-new compact slipform paver, SP 33, which is suitable for high-precision side and front paving of various profile concrete structures. Due to its modular design and numerous setting options, this machine can meet the construction application requirements under various working conditions.
In side paving construction, it is suitable for the laying of curb stones, curb stones with grooves, channels, drainage channels, and anti-collision guardrails up to 1.3 meters high. At the same time, there is no problem at all in laying concrete pavement slabs with a paving width of up to 2.2 meters. If used in conjunction with Trimmer, the maximum paving width can reach 2.4 meters. During the forward laying construction, the tracks of this slipform paver can rotate 90 degrees, and then the machine spreads laterally along the direction of travel. The paving mold is installed in the center below the machine, so it can lay concrete pavement slabs with a width of up to 3.0m. The quick and easy conversion from one paving mode to another makes the application range of the machine more extensive.
The brand-new control system is equipped with an event-driven graphic display, which can assist the operator in carrying out work using two paving Settings. The ECO mode can detect the current paving situation without manual intervention by the operator and ensure that the engine output is automatically and load-optimally adjusted to achieve low fuel consumption and low emissions. The front swing oulegs and two rear track assemblies that can extend laterally ensure greater flexibility in zero-gap paving and concrete paving
The AutoPilot 2.0 wireless machine control system is also applicable to SP 33. It can carry out efficient concrete paving without laying reference lines, thus greatly saving time and energy and improving the safety of personnel on the construction site. Meanwhile, the system accurately controls the height adjustment and steering of the machine. AutoPilot 2.0 can also quickly and accurately lay out integral structures of small radii and various shapes.
In the positive paving section, Wirtgen showcased an SP 94i slipform paver equipped with an integrated force transmission rod insertion device (DBI) and a TCM 180i roughing and maintenance machine. Reinforcement using the force transmission rod insertion device (DBI) can enhance the degree of automation, thereby improving the efficiency and quality of the entire paving process. When laying concrete on the pre-placed reinforcing bars, the concrete placing machine WPS 102i is a practical tool in the laying unit. It is located in front of the slipform paver, enabling material feeding from the side.
The Wirtgen slipform paver SP 33 can lay concrete pavement slabs with a width of up to 2.2 meters on the side and up to 3.0 meters on the front
Open-pit mining machine Surface Miner 280 SMi - economical, efficient and safe ore mining
At this Munich exhibition, Wirtgen showcased the 280 SMi open-pit mining machine for target mineral extraction. It can directly load the primary ore material stripped off onto the transport vehicle through the discharge belt, or handle it by throwing the material onto the side of the discharge belt or by stacking the material on the ground after discharge.
This machine peels and crushes primary ore materials in a more environmentally friendly way, thus ensuring the quality of the ore - without the need for drilling and blasting, and with a small impact on the environment. The cutting rotor with a width of 2,750mm and a cutting depth of up to 650mm ensures reduced wear of the tool head while achieving higher cutting performance.
The core component of this machine is the cutting rotor located in the center. The centered cutting rotor assembly ensures that the machine's weight is better utilized during the cutting process. 280 SMi can also economically and efficiently mine hard rocks with a uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) of 100 MPa, such as limestone, raw gypsum or anhydrite.
Wirtgen Surface Miner 280 SM(i) is a high-performance open-pit mining machine. It can directly load, side-dump and stack materials, and rear-discharge and stack materials on the ground. It is suitable for various construction applications
