The Allison FuelSense® 2.0 transmission saves 12% of fuel for the Marseille - Provence metropolis
Independent tests conducted in the Marseille - Provence metropolis have shown that the FuelSense® 2.0 software developed by Allison Transmission has saved up to 12% of fuel for municipal vehicles in France.
Paris, France, January 2021 - The Marseille - Provence metropolis conducted an 18-month independent test on four vehicles to evaluate the performance of the FuelSense® 2.0 software for Allison transmissions. This test demonstrates that the latest version of the software can save up to 12% of fuel.
The FuelSense 2.0 software is installed on four Renault D 4x2 trucks for garbage collection. The software activates the "Eco" mode instead of the "Performance" mode. The vehicles traveled an average of 1,200 kilometers per month, which means that during the test period, each vehicle traveled more than 21,000 kilometers.
Allison Transmission's FuelSense 2.0 saves up to 12% of fuel
Tests have found that fuel savings of up to 12% can be achieved through Allison's FuelSense 2.0. In addition to saving a significant amount of fuel, these four vehicles have also reduced nearly 5 tons of carbon dioxide emissions without compromising their driving performance.
The persistently high oil prices have prompted us to explore all possible solutions to reduce the fuel consumption of our vehicles. By conducting this test, we didn't expect to save so much fuel: 12%! "The feedback we received from the driver was very positive: the vehicle performance has not declined," explained Kogut-Kubiak, the equipment maintenance manager of the Marseille Provence metropolis.
Based on this test, the company chose to install FuelSense 2.0 on the other 24 vehicles in its fleet to reduce fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.
Our fleet consists of 160 garbage trucks. Among them, 100% are equipped with Allison gearboxes. We have chosen to use Allison gearboxes for a long time. The investment paid off quickly. "Allison gearboxes are robust and reliable, rarely shut down and easier to maintain," Kogut-Kubiak said.
This research was also confirmed by the Fife region in the UK. They conducted a six-month test on two Mercedes-Benz Econics garbage collection vehicles. These vehicles operate in two shifts from Monday to Friday, collecting different types of garbage and traveling 21,000 kilometers.
During the six-month period, these vehicles saved an average of 8.85% of fuel. Based on this result, the Fife region installed FuelSense 2.0 on 11 other garbage trucks. In addition, 11 new vehicles equipped with the new FuelSense 2.0 were ordered. These newly equipped FuelSense 2.0 vehicles and 11 additional ones will reduce the city's carbon dioxide emissions by 124 tons.
Allison's FuelSense 2.0 features DynActive™ dynamic shift sensing function. The core of this technology is an intelligent program algorithm that can continuously and automatically search for the most efficient shift point. This algorithm takes into account various factors, such as vehicle weight, road slope, or the frequency of stops and starts.
