Winter Maintenance Guide for Excavators
The first trick: Fully preheat the excavator before starting work
Before winter operation, the engine should run at low speed for 5 minutes. During the preheating process, the operator should check whether theexcavator is leaking oil or water, whether the oil warning light is off, whether the charging indicator light is off, whether the engine sound and exhaust color
are normal, and whether there are any abnormalities in any part of the machine. After the engine has been preheated, various slow actions should also be
performed by operating the excavator to preheat the hydraulic device, to prevent rapid operation from causing damage to the hydraulic device.
The second trick: Change the diesel and engine oil
In winter, when the temperature around the excavator drops, the viscosity of various oils inside the machine body will increase, making it difficult to start
the excavator. At this time, the operator should choose light diesel oil with a low freezing point and good ignition performance, and replace it with engine
oil of a higher grade.
The third tip: Pay attention to the battery capacity of the excavator
The lower the ambient temperature is, the lower the battery capacity of the excavator will be. The operator should pay attention to keeping the excavator
battery warm. There are several methods that can be referred to and used: The first one is to prepare a cotton quilt and cover the battery position to keep it
warm; The second method is to directly remove the battery from the body and store it in a warm room. When in use, reinstall it.
The fourth tip: The cooling water should be drained in a timely manner When adding antifreeze to the cooling system of the excavator in winter, add it in the proportion at the lowest temperature. If the excavator needs to be
parked for a period of time, be sure to empty the cooling water in the engine at this time. When draining water, the excavator should idle before being
turned off. Wait until the temperature of the cooling water drops below 60℃ and the water is no longer hot to the touch before turning off the engine to
drain water. Be sure to completely drain all the remaining water inside the machine to prevent it from freezing and expanding, which could cause the
machine to crack.
