How to maintain a turbocharger without worry
Never leave the vehicle when it is cold
After the engine starts, do not step on the accelerator pedal suddenly. Instead, let it idle for 3 to 5 minutes first. This is to raise the temperature of the engine oil, improve its fluidity, and ensure that the turbocharger is fully lubricated. Only then can you increase the engine speed and start driving.
Do not turn off the engine immediately after high-speed operation
A high-speed running engine must not be suddenly turned off; otherwise, the lubrication of the engine oil will be interrupted, and the heat inside the turbocharger cannot be carried away by the engine oil, which may easily cause the turbocharger shaft and the shaft sleeve to "seize up". Furthermore, when the engine suddenly stalls, the oil flowing to the turbocharger stops. If the temperature of the exhaust manifold is very high at this time, its heat will be absorbed onto the turbocharger housing, turning the oil remaining inside the turbocharger into carbon deposits. When such carbon deposits accumulate more and more, they will block the oil inlet, causing the bearing sleeve to lack oil, accelerating the wear between the turbine shaft and the bearing sleeve, and even leading to the serious consequence of "seizing". Therefore, before the engine is turned off, it should idle for about 3 minutes to reduce the rotational speed of the turbocharger rotor. However, turbocharged engines should not be idled for a long time either; otherwise, the turbocharger may also suffer from poor lubrication due to low oil pressure. Generally, the idling time should not exceed 10 minutes.
The engine oil and filter element cannot be taken lightly
The fit clearance between the rotating shaft and the shaft sleeve of the turbocharger is very small. Therefore, the engine oil and filter must be kept clean to prevent impurities from entering. Otherwise, the lubricating ability of the oil will decline, leading to the premature scrapping of the turbocharger. It is recommended that users use the special lubricating oil for XCMG heavy trucks.
The air filter is equally important
Clean the air filter on time to prevent dust and other impurities from entering the high-speed rotating compressed air impeller, which may cause unstable speed or accelerated wear of the shaft sleeve and sealing parts.
Regular inspections are indispensable.
Always pay attention to whether there is any abnormal noise or increased vibration of the turbocharger. There must be no leakage in the lubricating oil pipe and joints.
From the above, it is not difficult to find that when using turbocharged engines in daily life, two points need to be particularly noted. One is to use good engine oil, and this also leads to the fact that the maintenance cost of turbocharged engines is much higher than that of ordinary naturally aspirated engines. Another point is that when using it in daily life, it is important to warm up the car before moving it, and it is also best not to turn off the engine immediately when parking. As long as we pay attention to the above two points, we can fully enjoy the smooth power brought by the turbocharged engine.
