As a world-renowned manufacturer of low environmental impact industrial engines, Fiat Powertrain Technologies and Nikola, a leading designer and manufacturer of heavy-duty commercial battery electric vehicles (BEVs), fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs), and energy infrastructure solutions, jointly attended CES 2022 at the Las Vegas Convention Center from January 5th to 7th, 2022.

These two sustainable development oriented companies share the common mission of reforming and decarbonizing heavy road transportation. They began their collaboration in 2019 and now showcase their exciting achievements in the Road Application Innovation Zone at the new Fiat Powertrain Technologies booth at CES 2022 (booth No. 9643, North Hall).

The outcome of this collaboration, namely the star product jointly exhibited, is the integrated electric axle suitable for heavy commercial vehicle (HCV) -8 class trucks. This electric axle features high performance (840kW), excellent efficiency and complete sustainability. It was jointly developed with the BEV version of the Nikkor Tre truck, whose joint production base with Iveco was completed in Ulm (Germany) in September 2021. The first batch of Nikola Tre-exclusive electric axles is expected to be delivered to Nikola in 2022.

The Nikola Tre BEV truck has a range of up to 560 kilometers (350 miles) and excellent dynamic performance, which will be an important step for heavy-duty commercial trucks to achieve zero-emission transportation. Fiat Powertrain Technologies, Iveco and Nikola have adopted a modular approach in developing their electric products, which is unique in the industry. The Nikola Tre platform will employ either battery electric technology or hydrogen-powered fuel cell technology. By this approach, partners will look to the long term and put these two technologies into use now, so as to launch battery electric vehicles and fuel cell electric vehicles in the coming years.
