Allison Transmission introduces innovative solutions for the off-road market
Allison Transmission is a leading designer and manufacturer of drive solutions for both traditional and electrified vehicles, and also the world's largest manufacturer of fully automatic transmissions for medium and heavy commercial vehicles. We are delighted to announce the launch of Allison TerraTran™, the latest innovative product of Allison's drive solutions specifically designed for the global construction and mining markets.
As an upgrade to Allison's time-tested 4000 series transmission, the TerraTran is specifically designed for off-road applications such as mobile cranes, articulated dump trucks and wide-body mining dump trucks, offering sufficient application flexibility to enable Allison to target multiple new on-road opportunities. TerraTran was developed based on customer feedback, which indicates the need for the proven reliability and durability of the Allison 4000 series transmission, as well as increased horsepower, torque and load capacity, and also enhanced rapid reversing capability.
The TerraTran has a maximum power of up to 800 horsepower and a torque of up to 3,025 pound-feet (4,100 Nm), depending on the specific TerraTran application it will be used for. TerraTran features seven forward gears and two reverse gears. With the additional fast reverse gear, TerraTran enhances productivity and optimizes the efficiency of industry applications. Approximately two years of field testing have demonstrated that TerraTran offers enhanced driving performance, climbing ability and maneuverability under harsh operating conditions.
Allison is also very pleased to announce its cooperation with XCMG, a company headquartered in Xuzhou, China. TerraTran will be used for the first time in XCMG's all-terrain crane applications.
The cooperation with XCMG on all-terrain crane applications is just one successful case of Allison closely collaborating with our OEM partners to develop innovative solutions, providing our end-user customers with unparalleled performance and productivity. All of this is aimed at improving the operation mode of the global transportation capacity sector. Kartik Ramanan, Executive Director of Global Off-road Sales, Customer Support and Service Engineering at Allison Gearbox, said.
TerraTran fully leveraged Allison's over 65 years of experience in transporting soil, minerals and precious metals around the world, and Allison automatic transmissions themselves have proven to operate under some of the most challenging conditions imaginable.
The technical director of product research and development at XCMG expressed the hope that Allison's TerraTran could better enhance the differentiated performance and value of XCMG's products in the all-terrain crane market, and take the cooperation between the two sides to a new level. For over a decade of cooperation with Allison gearboxes, Allison products have always been reliable in performance and stable in quality.
