"High water temperature of excavator" refers to the phenomenon where the water temperature of the excavator equipment exceeds 95℃ (or exceeds the red line) during operation, and the equipment will prompt an alarm. This is commonly known as the "excavator overheating and boiling over" phenomenon. In addition, there will be a large amount of gas spurting out from the water tank of the equipment or water coming out of the water storage kettle. So, how should we correctly solve the problem when the water temperature of our beloved equipment is too high? Below, Doosan will list several common wrong practices for everyone and introduce the correct cooling measures.

Incorrect practices after the excavator experiences water temperature:

After the water boils, turn on the radiator: When the water temperature is too high during the operation of the excavator, directly opening the water tank radiator to cool it down is actually incorrect. Because the temperature of the radiator is also very high after the water tank boils, if the radiator cover is opened in a hurry at this time, the operator may be scalded by the hot water spraying out. The correct approach is to wait for the excavator to cool down naturally before adding water.

When the water temperature of an excavator is too high, it should not be stopped immediately. At this time, the engine temperature is extremely high. If the engine is turned off and stopped immediately, some of the metal in the radiator may fall off, which may cause the piston, piston rings and cylinder liner to stick together, leading to other excavator malfunctions.

Directly flushing the engine with cold water: When the water temperature of the excavator is too high and the engine boils over, directly flushing the engine with cold water. Although this method can lower the temperature, directly flushing the engine with cold water may cause damage to some internal components of the engine, and may even cause other parts such as the engine block and cylinder liner to crack.

Adding cold water directly to the radiator: Adding cold water directly to the radiator may cause scalding to the operator.

The correct approach when an excavator experiences excessively high water temperature:

"Reduce load, lower speed" to minimize heat absorption. Shift the throttle of the equipment to idle speed in first gear to reduce the load on the equipment and lower its rotational speed. The heat generated by the friction of each moving part will correspondingly decrease the heat produced by the engine, indirectly reducing the heat absorbed by the coolant, thereby slowing down the rate at which the water temperature rises.

Increase the air intake volume of the water tank to accelerate heat dissipation. Open the side doors on both sides of the excavator to increase the air volume entering the radiator, allowing the cabin temperature to dissipate quickly and thereby reducing the rate at which the water temperature rises.

After the temperature drops, check if the antifreeze in the water tank is lacking and add antifreeze. If there is no spare antifreeze at hand, you can add "purified water or distilled water for human use". Do not add river water or groundwater.

After the temperature drops, clean the radiator. After the temperature drops, check if there is too much dust between the radiator, condenser and water tank. Thoroughly clean them with high-pressure air to ensure that the water tank and condenser have good heat dissipation performance. It is also necessary to pay attention to wiping the dust between the condenser and the water tank on a regular basis. In fact, 80% of the high temperatures in excavators are caused by poor heat dissipation. Therefore, thoroughly cleaning the debris on the surface of the radiator and the scale and oil stains inside is an important part of solving the high temperature problem of excavators.
